Hello Steelers fans.
Greg Lloyd is gone. It didn't come as a
surprise to me. His injuries and performance made him a shell of the player
he use to be. From a leadership stand point, he was the best. He talked,
the other players listened. He gave them advice. They learned. But when
I watched him play last season (for the short time that he did) I did not
see my favorite things about him-his intensity, his attitude, and his just
plain meanness. Quarterbacks used to fear him. They had nightmares about
him sacking them into the ground. A season didn't go by without Lloyd racking
up thousands in fines. One of my favorite memories of him was when NBC
interviewed him in the locker room after the Steelers won the AFC Championship
in 1995. It was live t.v. and he must have said the f-word half a dozen
times. That is the Greg Lloyd that I liked, but where did he go? I don't
doubt that Greg could still be a great leader for this team, but is it
worth it to keep someone for $2.2 million who will lead, but play below-average?
Especially with all the young talent that the team has at the linebacker
position? Greg Lloyd has and always will be one of my favorite players.
I will miss him greatly, but it is time to move on. I wish him good luck
with what ever his plans are now. Thanks, Greg, for all your contributions
to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
